Back to Texas

Today was my first run after coming back to Texas from California. Clearly mother Nature decided that she had been overly generous to me over the past week, so she went out of her way to make tonight’s 5 miles as miserable as possible. A heat advisory was in effect. The sun was scorching. There was absolutely no movement in the air. I was dragging my feet, sweating like a horse, and hating every minute of it. Even though I kept sipping water every 5 minutes, I still lost 1.5 lbs in just one hour from sweating so much. I think I need to invest in some electrolyte supplements – I’m sure I’m losing more than just water. Tomorrow will be a short run, but because I will have to do it in the morning (since the weatherman is promising us a whopping 109), I will be fighting jetlag in addition to heat and humidity. But if this is the price I have to pay for one truly heavenly week in California – then so be it 🙂

Oh, and just to give myself that extra boost of motivation, I finally went ahead and registered for the 2012 Dallas (f.k.a. White Rock 😉 ) Marathon! It’s on!!!

For my long runs, I pour about 1/4 to 1/3rd of gatorade into the bottle and then fill rest with water. I also bring a snack bar with me on really long runs (10+) and start nibbling on it at halfway point.

    • My problem with Gatorade is that I don’t like the taste 😦 Although I might try experimenting with different flavors to see which one is tolerable.

      • Exactly why I dilute it. I can’t stand it straight either.

Also, one of my marathon books said – suck it up. That’s what you are going to get on marathon day. And if you are not used to it, you may get sick from the sweetness. So you may as well learn to like basic flavor (i think it’s that horrible lime green one)

  2. Congrats on signing up for the marathon!

    • Thank you! I remember how upset I was just a few weeks ago when I thought I wasn’t going to be able to do it. This thought is what motivates me to drag my butt out there and run in this heat.
